Description of Evarcha arcuata
Physical Characteristics
Female 6 to 8 mm. Markings are slightly variable.
Abdomen light brown to grey brown with a short dark median band on top and slanting black spots along the sides.
Carapace light brown to grey brown with a dark area on top between the eyes. On the front horizontal light stripes next to and below the anterior eyes.
Legs light brown to grey-brown.
Palps light brown to grey-brown.
Male 5 to 6 mm.
Abdomen dark brown to black with a metallic shine.
Carapace dark brown to black with a metallic shine. Next to and below the anterior eyes striking white horizontal stripes.
Legs dark brown to black and annulated at the end. In the male femora, patellae, tibiae of pair of legs I is thickened.
Palps dark brown to black.
Habitat
Mainly in sunny humid places in grass or heather. Also in drier areas in light woods.
Distribution
Common in the whole of Europe.
Period
Summer to early autumn.
