Description of Clubiona comta

Physical Characteristics

Resembles the Barc sac spider Clubiona corticalis, but is clearly smaller.

Female 4 to 6 mm.
Abdomen very light brown to reddish brown with a light brown fringed dark cardiac mark and light brown chevrons behind this.
Carapace brownish to greenish with a light band around.
Legs and palps pale yellow-brown.

Male 3 to 5 mm.
Markings almost identical to the female, but often darker.

Habitat

In low plants and shrubs and under bark. Also on the ground in moss and under stones. Up to 1,500 m.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring and summer.
