Description of Neon rayi

Physical Characteristics

Female 2 to 3 mm.
Abdomen orange with three dark (red) brown longitudinal stripes. Sometimes several chevrons at the rear.
Carapace light beige with black areas around the eyes and thin black stripe along the edge.
Legs light beige with thin dark annulations. Pair of legs I of femur to metatarsus dark brown to black.
Palps light beige.

Male 2 to 3 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Palps dark brown to black with light beige femora and tarsi.

Habitat

In hot, dry areas under rocks and among low plants.

Distribution

Occurs in the Mediterranean area. Up to the north as far as Germany and Belgium, but rare.

Period

The portrayed specimen has been found in June. No further information about the period is known.
