Description of Tetragnatha montana (Shadow stretch-spider)

Physical Characteristics

Colour variable.

Female 7 to 13 mm.
Abdomen with an elongated, silver-white outlined golden leaf-shaped figure, golden wavy borders along the sides and black lines that can sometimes be quite thick.
Carapace brown to reddish brown.
Sternum uniformly dark brown.
Legs and palps light brown to reddish brown with faint dark annulations.

Male 6 to 8 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Legs sometimes clearer annulated.

Habitat

In bushes and trees along shaded banks.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring, summer and autumn.
