Description of Theridion melanurum

Physical Characteristics

Strongly resembles Theridion mystaceum.

Female 2.5 to 5 mm.
Abdomen yellow brown to dark brown with a light-coloured, wavy median band. This is often reddish in the centre.
Carapace light brown to dark brown with a black spot on top and a black band along the edge with radial stripes to the centre.
Legs and palps yellowish with dark annulations.

Male 2.5 to 4.5 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Legs clearer annulated.

Habitat

In cracks and crevices in walls and stones. In the mountains up to 1,500 m.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

All year.
